Description

A central part of making Pitt more trans-inclusive is focusing on how we can improve the classroom experience. With that in mind, “Education for Leadership and Citizenship on Trans Issues” will bring professionals and activists from the Pittsburgh community with considerable experience in this area into dialogue with the University Center for Teaching and Learning, faculty, and graduate students from across the University’s schools and disciplines. We are specifically inviting Department Chairs and Program Directors like yourself to attend because the goal of the event is to inform and empower you to return to your home unit with a tangible set of skills for transforming curriculum and classroom practice. We believe strongly that providing Chairs and Program Directors with the tools needed to take ownership in their home units on building a more trans-inclusive Pitt will be an effective and rewarding way to build a stronger community on campus and continue to address an important part of the University’s commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion.

This event will take place in an engaging “flipped” format, with emphasis on deep conversation and connection between community leaders and Pitt faculty like yourself. Panelists with expertise in trans issues will speak briefly on their experience with trans-inclusive curriculum in their own profession before breaking into small groups with participants from Pitt to explore specific dimensions of two core conversations: why we should include trans topics in curriculum in all units at Pitt and how we can transform curriculum and practice to do so. During the event everyone will be able to circulate between these smaller groups to cover a range of trans-inclusive topics and skills.
